Featured iPhone Artist: P.M. Allen

by patrickj June 15, 2011

Today’s featured iPhone artist is P.M. Allen, a Boston artist who does freehand sketches on the iPhone and is fresh off a gallery showing that was mentioned in the Boston Globe. The image above is titled ‘Galway House’. I like the colors and the feel of a typical neighborhood Irish bar. Allen works with the [...]

Featured iArtist: Peter Schachter

by patrickj February 25, 2011

I love The Beautiful Game, football – or soccer if you insist. And I really love this image of one of the world’s greatest ever exponents of the beautiful game – Lionel Messi, of Argentina and Barcelona. It’s by Peter Schachter, and I’m very glad that he approached me via email to share it. Here [...]

Featured iPhone Art: The Barkeeper by Simone Kirschning

by patrickj December 5, 2010

Who doesn’t love a good bartender. Someone who knows your drink and just how you like it. Someone to chat to about all of the world’s (or sometimes your own) troubles. Someone who can make a great mojito.  The Barkeeper is a tribute to just such a fellow. It’s by Simone Kirtschning and was done [...]

Featured iPad Art: Autumn Tints by Yoshiyuki Uchida

by patrickj November 14, 2010

Wow. Just wow. I only just featured the work of Yoshiyuki Uchida a few days ago, so generally I would not return to it so soon – but when I caught a glimpse of this image I just could not resist.  The colors and the reflections of them in the water are just spectacular, magical [...]

by patrickj November 12, 2010

We featured Rita Flores’ iPhone art a little over a year ago. Today I’m very happy to share some of her  iPad painting work. The image above is ‘FGT! Haffenstrasse, Copenhagen’. It was done with Brushes on iPad. I visited Copenhagen once with my dad. I don’t remember this place, but I do remember it [...]

Featured iArtist: Yoshiyuki Uchida

by patrickj November 9, 2010

Wow. Yoshiyuki Uchida’s artwork done on the iPad and the iPhone is beautiful and impressive right off the bat. When you then learn that Yoshiyuki is an over-50 year old businessman in Tokyo who had ‘no idea’ of painting seriously until six months ago the work is all the more amazing. I have just started [...]

The image above is called ‘Pelican Summer’ and it’s by today’s featured iPad artist, Catherine Foot. Catherine lives near Melbourne, Australia and says this about her work on the iPad: I am only new to the iPad, but I love it! And it has got me back into creating art again … I love the [...]

Featured iPhone Artist: Eric Molinsky

by patrickj October 30, 2010

Eric Molinsky does wonderful ‘slice of life’ type portraits of people he observes around him. He does them using the SketchBook  app on his iPhone, and the vast majority are done wile riding the subway in New York City. The portraits are compelling to me because they all have a perfect sort of ‘every man’ [...]

by patrickj September 28, 2010

The New Yorker Magazine for iPad hit the App Store this week.  The inaugural issue looks good, and features a gorgeous cover image done by no less than David Hockney. Best of all, and fittingly, the cover image was drawn on an iPad, using the Brushes app. Great stuff.

Featured iPhone & iPad Artist: Mia Robinson

by patrickj September 17, 2010

I love the simply-titled ‘Face’ image above by Mia Robinson. It feels at once mysterious and strong.  This one was done on an iPad. Mia describes her style thusly: My style remains experimental and ecclectic, as I am constantly exploring the texture and how to achieve both the more “painterly” and “chalky” effects of natural [...]
