What a gorgeous image.

It’s titled simply ‘Just a Bird’ and it was created by Darlene Twitchell using the Procreate app on iPad. Here’s a little more background on it from the artist herslef:

My friend Kathy announced yesterday on Facebook that it was Draw a Bird Day in the UK yesterday. So, I drew a bird. This is from a photo I took of a bird which landed on a branch outside my office window. I usually miss getting a photo of the vibrantly colored ones so I was happy to catch this guy.

Darlene is an accomplished artist and graphic designer who has just started painting on the iPad  – and loves it. She was kind enough to email me and tell me about her first few artworks on the iPad.

I posted a week ago about the new InkPad vector drawing app for the iPad. Today I see that some of my favorite iArtists have already been getting some good use out of the new app.

Above is an image titled ‘José Buenaventura Durruti 1896-1936’ and it is by Joseandrés Guijarro, aka la legra negra. This one leaped off the page at me and I did not expect to see InkPad as the app it was created with. Not sure why, I guess the vector drawing term throws me off a little.

This is an instant favorite for me. It’s titled simply iPad Portrait of Steve Wozniak at Work Today, and it was done by an iPad portrait master, David Newman.

How cool is that? A superb portrait of one of Apple’s founders, at work and using Apple devices, created entirely on one of Apple’s latest marvels. Here’s just a little more on it, from David’s description of the Flickr stream entry for it:

We’ve featured one of Kyle Lambert’s portraits done on his iPad a couple months back. Above is a video of another of his incredible series of finger painted portraits – this time the actor Will Smith  is featured.

Wow. Just wow. I only just featured the work of Yoshiyuki Uchida a few days ago, so generally I would not return to it so soon – but when I caught a glimpse of this image I just could not resist.  The colors and the reflections of them in the water are just spectacular, magical to me. The bird seems dignified and powerful in the middle of it all.

It is called ‘Autumn Tints’ and was done with the Brushes app on the iPad.

We featured Rita Flores’ iPhone art a little over a year ago. Today I’m very happy to share some of her  iPad painting work.

The image above is ‘FGT! Haffenstrasse, Copenhagen’. It was done with Brushes on iPad. I visited Copenhagen once with my dad. I don’t remember this place, but I do remember it being a lovely city. In any case, I love images of striking spots by the water almost as much as I love the places themselves.

This image is titled ‘Red’ and is by Janet Vanderhoof. It was done on an iPad with the Brushes app.

I love all the different shades of red there are in the image – from the background to the lips and varying shades in the woman’s hair.

Another for the new favorite from an old favorite category. I can’t say that lollipops are generally a subject I’m fascinated by, but this image just leapt off the page when I first saw it.

The colors are amazing. A lollipop hasn’t looked this good to me in years.

It’s called ‘Lolli-Pop’ and it is by Luis Peso – created with the Brushes app on an iPad.  Oh, and the image is dedicated to La Legra Negra – who Luis calls ‘our wing man in NY’. More good memories of the MobileArt Con 2010 event.

The New Yorker Magazine for iPad hit the App Store this week.  The inaugural issue looks good, and features a gorgeous cover image done by no less than David Hockney.

Best of all, and fittingly, the cover image was drawn on an iPad, using the Brushes app.

Great stuff.

A really interesting image – especially coming from a guy who claims to just ‘draw aimlessly’ on his iPad. It’s called Tribe and it’s by Andy McClung – and here’s more about it (as well as about Andy’s approach):

As you know the title of my website is "draw aimlessly."  All of my drawings come to me as an idea throughout the day or on the spot within the first couple of lines drawn.  I use an iPad for all of my work, and to me it is very relaxing.  The work entitled "Tribe" actually represents a style of symbols I have drawn my whole life which remind me of tribal art.  "Tribe" was the first of many pieces I will be featuring in that style.  Some even may resemble objects or life.  I consider them to be "inspired in the moment" which makes them absolutely unique and fun.

Today I’m very happy to share some lovely iPad artwork from a fellow forum member at my favorite iPhone and ipad forum – geordisjd.   Back in May, she posted some of her creations, all done within just one day of getting her iPad!

Corliss Blakely is an accomplished and recognized artist, and she’s now receiving some much-deserved acclaim for her lovely iPad art.  The UK’s Telegraph newspaper recently featured her work, noting that they could easily be mistaken for oil paintings or watercolors – despite having been created entirely with fingers and iPad apps such as Brushes and ArtStudio.

I’m happy to say that Corliss is also a very good friend of this site.  She was even kind enough to create the site banner for this site for us.

Here’s one of the latest examples I’ve seen of amazing art being produced on the iPad.  It’s a portrait of live model – done by David Kassan with the Brushes app.

David’s work on this portrait took three hours and it was live streamed as he did it.  Great stuff.

I watched a few videos that showcased Rana Sobhany, the World’s First iPad DJ – and her efforts at iPadDevCamp.  The great portrait of her in action shown above was – fittingly – done on an iPad, by David Newman.

David is obviously finding the iPad a pretty great tool for his portraits work.

What a powerful image.  Here’s a little more about it, straight from our friend David Scott Leibowitz:

While doing research for my upcoming book on iPhone / iPad Art, I’ve been reading a lot of art history books. For some reason the Cubists stuck in my head like a song that you hum all day. The work for the next few days all had a Cubist flavor, but here’s my clear favorite, "The Cracked Old Man". My work with the iPad has taken on an abstract tone of late, as I have found the larger surface more suited to playing with paint and brushes than the iPhone.

What a great image.  I think the amazing power of the iPad combined with its beyond-simple interface is enough to inspire child-like wonder in many of us.  I also love the story behind the image:

… could be called ‘discovering iPad’, it’s the first illustration I made on my iPad using Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, made the day after I received it. It was inspired by the first feeling I had when I hold it for the first time : I felt like a child discovering his new toy !
