I’ve been hearing great things about the ArtStudio painting app for the iPhone and iPad for quite a while.  In particular, our friend Corliss Blakely has been singing the app’s praises.

Corliss has also provided an excellent tutorial on using the app.  She walks through her process and techniques from first starting point to a finished work, titled ‘Old Cupboard’.  The tutorial offers both a slide show and a walk-through with screenshots and explanatory text.

I’m not an artist myself (far, far from it), but Corliss’ tutorial seems like a great introduction to this painting app.  Give it a look here:

Brushes – the incredible painting application for the iPhone – has been updated, to Version 2.0.  The big headline new feature is the addition of layers.  Here’s a little more detail on what’s new in this update:

Layers. Brushes now supports up to 4 layers. You can import multiple photos, adjust layer opacity, merge, reorder layers, and copy and paste them between paintings.  Enhanced Brush panel. Toggle between brush mode and erase mode. Adjust paint opacity within the brush panel. Enhanced zooming. Zoom in up to 1600%. Double tap to quickly toggle between 100% and your preferred zoom level. – Stability improvements. Fixes crashes that could occur on iPhone OS 3.0.

Layers is a powerful, new iPhone app. The name says it all.   Better yet, the screen shot below says it all.   Take a look …

As you can see, the Layers Mode interface is elegant.   There is no other way to describe it, so I’ll say it again. …. elegant!  Except if you wanted to ALSO describe it as “instantly intuitive”, or “Fun”.

Yesterday saw the launch of a much-awaited and very highly touted new iPhone painting app called Layers.  I think the app has been very well received overall, and is mostly living up to some very high expectations – but there is also at least one major bug in the first version of the app, as noted in the comments on our original Layers post by SFDex.

What is very good to see is that the app’s young developer is responding quickly and effectively to reported bugs, glitches, and missing features in Version 1.0.  Read on for details of a workaround for the app’s one major glitch and some updates news as well.

I’ve heard several iPhone artists talk about how eager they were to see the new Layers painting app for the iPhone – and today it has hit the App Store.

Layers appears to offer some powerful features, and looks very promising.  It’s described as a ‘…natural media painting app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Built on the feedback of hundreds of mobile artists.

Our good friend – and creator of our lovely site banner – Corliss Blakely emailed me this morning to mention a new (ish) iPhone painting application she has been trying out.  The app is called Inspire – Paint, and Corliss used it to produce the lovely ‘5 minute study’ shown above.

Here’s a little bit of what Corliss had to say about the Inspire – Paint app:

It’s a little difficult at first but it is really like painting with oil you can blend with it so well I forget I’m painting on the iPhone.
