Steve John is an old favorite iPhone artist of ours. It’s been a while since we featured his work here. Too long. So I’m glad to be sharing a couple of his iPhone artworks today.

The image above is titled ‘Pandemonium’. That’s normally a word with negative connotations – but the image feels somehow happy to me. It still conveys a sense of pandemonium as it’s traditionally thought of, but it’s the sort of pandemonium I’d like to join right in on.

The image above is titled ‘Misty Morning’. It’s by SallyAnn La Main, and was created using Brushes on an iPhone.

For me, there’s so much to like about this image. I was lucky enough to grow up a short walk from a boat basin. This painting conjures up lots of good memories of that place – and just of how lovely it is to be by the water.

When I approached her about sharing this piece, SallyAnn reminded me that it had been a year just about exactly since we first featured her work here. Here’s a little more back story on SallyAnn and her iPhone art:

I am a self taught amateur and I only use  an iPhone 4- still don’t have a computer- "almost" all my painting is done with the Brushes app.  "Occasionally" mix up with other apps like photogene, ps express, photo studio etc. I have more apps than I can keep track of, but always go back to Brushes It’s my favorite!

A new favorite from an old favorite.

It’s called ‘Fingerpainting Times Square’ and it’s by Joseandrés Guijarro, le legra negra – and it shows some of his colleagues who attended last weekend’s MobileArt Con 2010 conference in New York, at work fingerpainting in Times Square.

Steve John has been one of my favorite iPhone artists since I fist discovered this medium.  His abstract paintings are always so vibrant and so full of 101 different layers and things going on.   The image above is called ‘Monkey Island’ and is part of a superb slide show of 15 abstract iPhone paintings that Steve recently shared.

It’s Labor Day here in the US – a day for families and enjoying the ending stages of the summer.  Here’s a painting  that has both a fresh, summery feel to it and a ‘family’ theme.  It’s a creation by Asha Hickok, who is the granddaughter of Corliss Blakely – whose wonderful iPhone and iPad art we have frequently shared here.

Here is Asha’s description of her artwork:

I was outside when I thought of drawing this.This is yet another one of my great drawings.I am inspired by life and Corliss Blakey one of the best artist

Walks with my dog are among my favorite parts of the day – so I love this image.  My walks are in much less lively spots than the colorful scene above – but it looks like a nice scenic route to take.

Over the last several months I’ve been continually astounded at the wonderful art being produced on iPhones, and have been discovering more and more amazingly talented artists who are embracing the medium.  One of my top, top favorites is la legra negra, or José Andrés Guijarro Ponce.

The image above is just one recent example of the many, many iPhone works of his that I love.  This one has caught my attention because the image itself is striking, and also because José Andrés has provided a brilliant four-step tutorial on how he produced it.

Here’s a fun, and impressive, image for the long weekend.  Grodenaue contacted us to share this one – which is his *first* drawing using the Layers app!  Some first effort that – my only question is: what did the octopus do to lose out on equal billing?

This is one of those strange cases where I can say I liked the painting more than the movie (tee hee). Paul created this painting with the Brushes app, and I think it’s a great little piece. I love the play on words, but I’m also just really impressed by the detail and lettering. It really would make a great poster for the Futurama version of the movie

I’ve been meaning to post this one for ages – glad to finally get a chance.  I found out about this one via our good friend David Scott Leibowitz, via email. 

David let me know that this piece – titled simply ‘Typhoon Night in Taiwan’, was done right in the middle of that tragic event, by Yan Min Lee.  What a beautiful and powerful image – and all the more so knowing the photo was taken ‘live’ at the scene.  The image was also filtered with the Camerabag app.

Somebody give this guy a hand!

And now for something completely different: the undead — who knew they could be so lovably cute?! If this is really how Evil looks, then it’s welcome to be a Resident on my computer (oh, god).

This is a pic from TooManyZombies.com. The artist’s bio is written in Zombienese, which really just looks like a lot of “uuuuuuurgh” and “aauuuuuuuuugh” to me. A quick google search showed that the artist seems to go by the name Dogg Thang, but I couldn’t get any more than that.

In any case, “Too Many Zombies” is definitely worth a look. The zombies are drawn at a rate of one per day using a finger and the Layers app and they each have hilarious little back stories. Did I mention how cute they look?

A beautiful image of a far from beautiful scene.  I love the title of the image as well – ‘Cruelty Is Never Culture’.  It was done by José Andrés Guijarro Ponce, or la legra negra as he is known on Flickr, with the Brushes app.

I also like the message posted along with this piece:

Such a lovely image, with such a sad story behind it …

Last week millions of this friends dead burned in my country for a criminal hand. I cry for them.

In my home town, Austin, we are fortunate to have a very ‘green-conscious’ government – but even so, over the years I’ve lived here we’ve seen quite a few beautiful trees and fields cleared away to usher in another Walmart.

Patricio is another iPhone artist whose work I cannot help but admire every time I look at his Flickr stream, and all the many he contributes to (like this Layers gallery) – and he is very prolific, so there is lots to enjoy.

Love this image – particularly the colors and the subtly menacing look that suits the title well.   This one was done in the new Layers app, that David posted his Part 1 review on earlier today.
