It’s been far too long between updates here – I’ll try to improve on that soon. Today I’m very happy to feature another iPhone artist – who claims not to be an artist – who approached us directly via our site contact form: David Khabie-Zeitoune.
David has dived into iPhone art by doing a set of portraits with the iPhone and the wonderful Brushes application:
Sleeping commuters I sit opposite on my way to or from work. All created with Brushes on the iPhone, mostly in real-time (i.e. on the Tube).
Here’s a little more background that David was kind enough to share with me:
I stumbled onto the whole iPhone art thing recently. I’m not an artist by
profession but I find it very relaxing to push virtual paint around on my
iPhone screen. I have a dull and dreary commute every day on the London Tube
(underground trains). As I travel quite early in the morning or late in the
evening (long hours…) there are often other commuters asleep opposite me.
One day, I thought it might be fun to have a go at sketching one of them on
my iPhone using the Brushes app. I’ve added a few more since then, every
time I see someone interesting looking or who doesn’t look likely to wake up
and wonder why I keep staring at him/her.I usually get about 80% of the picture done while the subject is sitting
opposite me (which takes about 10-15 minutes); then I need to change Tube
lines, so I normally try and finish the picture off on the second leg of my
journey or that evening on the way home.
And here’s one more from the Sleeping Commuters series:
I’d say David’s ‘stumble’ into iPhone art has seen him land very much on his feet – and I look forward to seeing lots more characters from the Tube (this brings back memories for me of London tube and overground train journeys).
