in iPhone Art Apps, iPhone Paintings with Layers

Poppy by Corliss Blakely

Our good friend – and creator of our lovely site banner – Corliss Blakely emailed me this morning to mention a new (ish) iPhone painting application she has been trying out.  The app is called Inspire – Paint, and Corliss used it to produce the lovely ‘5 minute study’ shown above.

Here’s a little bit of what Corliss had to say about the Inspire – Paint app:

It’s a little difficult at first but it is really like painting with oil you can blend with it so well I forget I’m painting on the iPhone.

Here are a few of the app’s other notable features:

  • Four different kinds of paint brushes to choose from: a flat brush, round brush, fan brush, and palette knife.
  • Each brush comes in many different sizes to allow large, sweeping strokes as well as fine, precise strokes.
  • Brushes can be loaded with different amounts of paint, including no paint at all for a dry brush
  • Brushes can be rotated a full 360 degrees to allow a variety of different strokes
  • Paint actually ‘breaks’ as it depletes off the palette knife, allowing techniques such as layering and the creation of textures

Sounds very promising.  We’d love to hear from others who have used this app.  Give us a shout via our Contact page and let us know if you’d like us to share your work.

You can find Inspire – Paint in the App Store now, priced at $4.99.
